Uncategorized
In this concluding part of the series on fund raising Julia shares her top tips for success and reasons why things can go wrong. But she also stresses that there is a lot of information available online to help you write a good funding application.   . Reasons applications might get rejected, regardless of the competition: It did not link the project well enough to what the funder wants to fund It was submitted after the deadline Not all the information requested was sent in The budget did not make sense or it looked unrealistic The organisation did not demonstrate that it was well run, stable or financially viable – such as accounts being filed late, little or no reserves It did not clearly state what it wanted the funder…

Poor, Uncategorized

In this and the next posting we focus on Finding and Approaching potential funders.   How to find potential funders Keep true to your vision Know the difference you want to make and look for funding that helps you achieve it. It was passion for seeing a change or something improved that got you started, and it will be that same passion that will get you funded. Embracing difference – Pathways Care Farm. Pt 2 – What do we do?

Uncategorized
In part 2 of this 2-part series Geoff answers the question 'What is a care farm' and explains how they outwork it. What is a care farm? There are about 260 care farms in the UK (over 1100 in The Netherlands!) and they are all different. Their purpose is to use ‘green space’ to care for vulnerable people. Our charity, Pathways Care Farm, provides therapeutic day care for people who live with mental ill-health, learning difficulties and dementia. With over 20,000 volunteer hours to date we have transformed a farm which had been derelict for about 25 years into a beautiful, thriving, functioning piece of heaven on earth. Social Enterprise 6 – Reinvesting resources through Social Enterprises

Poor, Uncategorized
Nick Priggis concludes this series by considering how to reinvest the profits from social enterprises. Reinvesting Profit Some of the most interesting and innovative historical enterprises that Christians have been involved with have come from the Quakers. The tremendous social impact of Quakers such as Cadbury and Rowntree is well documented and provides an historic model for Christian Entrepreneurs today. What is less well-known is the story of the Moravians and Basel Mission Society. Both these historic missionary movements intentionally invested in…

Last Saturday this annual conference was held in Wimbledon, London. After a wonderful time of extended worship which exalted the Lord, Martin Charlesworth, who leads the Jubilee+ initiative, served us superbly with his opening message, one that has the potential to change the way we function as churches if we understand the commission God has given us to influence our communities. The church and the welfare state First Martin reminded us,…

50 years of friendship continues

News, Uncategorized
The Purposes of God Some days you wake up expecting a normal day only to find that by the evening life has changed. Although we did not recognise it at the time this proved to be our experience in 1968 when Terry Virgo walked into our lives. Janita and I had been married for one year and lived in a village, Scaynes Hill, in Sussex. Some newly weds, Phil and Agnes Ball, moved into the village and a bumper sticker revealed they were Christians. As we got to know them we decided to start a village Bible Study and they said they would invite their friend Terry to that first meeting. And so we first met. It was immediately obvious that Terry loved the word, was a worshipper and a…
